Last Day of School

Friday, June 8, 2019, was the last day of school for 7th grade for me. At our school, on the last day, we have Field Day where you don’t have any classes and you get to go talk with friends, play on inflatables, and eat BBQ provided by Home and School Club. One of my closest friends and I hung out pretty much the whole day. We got yearbooks signed, ate, and talked with other friends and teachers. But here’s the thing, instead of getting to go home after school ended for the summer, I had to stay back for another while. A couple hours after school gets out, is eighth grade graduation. I have been accepted in the Leadership class at our school, but that also means we have extra responsibilities, such as helping prepare for graduation. So, I got to help set up the awards and chairs for grad. This took an hour. Then after this, I had to perform at graduation with my band. So we had to warm up, set up, preform, wait for the ceremony, and then perform again. Which all took another two and a half hours. I was so happy to go home, but I was also a little sad, I was going to somewhat miss school for the next three months, but I was happy to finally leave enjoy the rest of my day after working so hard for so long.

My six closest friends and I planned out an awesome night for ourselves to celebrate summer. We were going to go out to BJ’s, then watch a movie at home, and have a sleepover. So after I got back from school, (much later than others), I changed in to some fancier clothes and rested for a little but because I knew were all going to need it. I had already packed my stuff the day before because I knew I was going to be home late and wouldn’t have a ton of time to do so. When 5:00 rolled around, I grabbed my stuff and had my mom drop me off. When everybody arrived at our friend’s house, her mom took us all to BJ’s. At first they said that there would be a 45 to 60 minute wait, so we almost went somewhere else. But then they offered us to squeeze into a five seater booth, and we agreed because we were all pretty small, and so it wasn’t even much of a squeeze. So we got to eat where we wanted to. We started looking at menus and decided that instead of each of us getting our own entree, we were just going to share three dishes. So we decided on this starter plate which had mozzarella sticks, boneless chicken wings, avocado egg rolls, and a spinach and artichoke dip with chips. Then we ordered a margarita flatbread and a cheesy pasta. When these items came, we finished them quite quickly because we were all pretty hungry. But we had finished all the food in front of us, some of us were still hungry, so we ordered these garlic parmesan knots, or bread rolls. This filled us up enough for dessert time. Th reason we wanted to go to BJ’s is because of their pazuki. But since there were seven of us, we didn’t want to order a bunch of little ones, so one of my friend’s suggested getting a pizza pazuki. It wasn’t even on the menu, we had to ask for it. It took a while to come, but we all gobbled it up the first chance we got. My friend took a before and after picture of the plate, and it was really funny. After we finished our entire meal and dessert, and were stuffed really well, we started counting up our money, making sure everyone paid the same amount. One of our friends was already our treasurer, finding out how much money we had, how much tip we should put, and how much each person should pay. We gave a pretty healthy tip because our server was the sweetest person; we told her that it was summer now for us, and she was so excited. And even for the bread knots, only four are supposed be on a plate, but she put a couple extra onto one plate just for us. So we all decided to tip her more highly that usual. All in all, each of us ended up paying $15. Since we shared everything, we just split the bill evenly. I got to be the money counter, making sure everybody was able to pay, and that everybody got change if they needed it. We paid and left the restaurant, feeling like responsible eighth graders. We got picked up and we drove home.

Once we home, we picked out movie to watch and started changing into pajamas. We picked “To All The Boys I Loved Before” because only two of us hadn’t watched it, and everybody else said it was really good. So we changed, got bundled up, and started the movie. About half way through, we got some popcorn, even though we didn’t need anymore food after dinner. The movie was really good; it was funny, romantic, and a little serious at times. A good rom-com for sure. While we were watching, my friend’s mom had prepared sleeping arrangements for us. We fell asleep after talking for another hour and half after the movie.

In the morning, I was getting picked up at 8:15 because I had to go somewhere. So I made everybody get up at 7:00. I started to get ready, and then my friend’s parents went out to get bagels for us. We were just chilling while they were out and I packed up my stuff. When they got back, we started eating right away because I had to leave soon. I also got my hair braided into a lovely french braid. I was almost done eating when my dad arrived, so I just took my leftover bagel to go. So I had to say bye to everyone, but it was so much fun.

I had so much with my friends at dinner and at the sleepover, and we are all super excited for summer and to officially be eighth graders. Stay tuned for what I had to leave early for!
