Christmas Child

Christmas Child is an organization where people buy toys, put them in shoe boxes and give them to C.C. C.C. takes these boxes and sends them to kids in less fortunate countries, such as Iraq, Syria, Africa, and more. My friend found out about this organization and asked me to do it with her. of course I said yes. Our plan was to raise money somehow, buy toys and everyday products, get lots of shoe boxes, pack the items in the boxes, wrap the boxes in Christmas wrapping paper, put labels on them, and then finally deliver them to a church that runs Christmas Child. It was a long process, but it was really fun.

Our first step was to raise money. We thought it would be fun to do a bake sale. We had a sleepover and planed everything out, and started baking what we were going to serve. We settled on Chocolate Chunk Brownies, Snicker-doodle Cookies, and water. In the morning we loaded up a small wagon, and walked over to where we were going to sell. We set up our little booth, and started trying to reel customers in. It did work. We earned $23 on our first day.

The next day, we did another bake sale, and earned $30! Altogether we got $53 from our bake sales! Our second step was to buy our items. We went to Dollar Tree, because we knew we could get a lot of stuff for a cheap price. We bought items depending on age group. We got little teddy bears and foam mats for 2-4 age group. We got balls, socks, hair brushes, ans hair ties for the 5-9 age group. We got notebooks, socks, hair brushes, ans hair ties for the 10-14 age group. We got all those things plus tooth brushes, pencils, and erasers for all of the kids. We planed yet another play date to do wrapping and packing.

By the time we finished wrapping, both of us were totally exhausted! We printed out labels and taped them on. We met up again and took all the boxes to the church. There, we got a cart, and loaded the boxes onto the cart. We wheeled it into the room where the church was putting the boxes into bigger boxes to ship away to kids. By the time we were leaving the church, we both felt accomplished. I had a lot of fun through out this whole process. And the best part was that I felt good that thanks to me and my friend, some kids are going to get to have the joy of opening up a Christmas present.

The experience was a lot of work, it was awesome, it was exciting, it was exhausting, it was yummy, but most of all, it was FUN!
